The ability to sever ties to a computer or an office is becoming increasingly important to professionals due to the increased productivity and efficiency that mobility brings. In fact, a recent 2011 Intuit Accounting Professionals Division study (December 2011 survey, 500 respondents) on how technology can help accountants improve their lives found that 34 percent of accounting professionals find mobile applications useful to gain access to files anytime and anywhere, allowing them to field questions or file securely email returns to clients on-the-go.
Intuit Tax Online, the brainchild of Intuit’s Accounting Professionals Division, already allows tax professionals to prepare and e-file a client’s return from any computer with an Internet connection at anytime. Taking that a step further, Intuit designed Tax Online Mobile to compliment Intuit Tax Online in an effort to create a true cloud-based application. Tax Online Mobile allows subscribers to see the current e-filing and refund status for all client returns, and to view tax return PDFs from the palm of their hand.
Clients often want to know the status of their return and their refund. Intuit Tax Online Mobile allows tax preparers to easily answer that burning client question no matter where they are.
“The mobile app has truly increased the value of Tax Online in my practice,” says Deon Jenkins, tax accountant at Tax Accounting, Business Strategy and E-Commerce firm Green Collar.
“An employee of mine was able to consult with a client about their tax return while they were out at lunch. He had previously left a voice message for a client prior to lunch about a dependent reported on their tax return that transmitted an error. As my employee was eating his lunch, the client returned his phone call requesting more information of the dependent error. My employee was able to launch the Tax Online mobile app from their iPhone and was able to explain to the client about which dependent on their tax return generated an incorrect SSN error. Also, as a reminder to the client, my employee snapped a screenshot of the error message within the Tax Online mobile app using their iPhone and texted the actual screenshot to the client for clarity.”
Tax accountants using Intuit Tax Online Mobile can check a client’s e-file status in a matter of seconds. Additionally, tax preparers can use the app to look up and securely forward a client’s return as well as access their Tax Online client list. With the improvements to Tax Online and the addition of the mobile app, the number of customers using Tax Online this year has grown three times over the number of customers from the previous time last year.
